#17 — The Boy Who Was Raised Like a Dog

The Boy Who Was Raised Like a Dog by Bruce D. Perry and Maia Szalavitz

Rating: 3/5

  • A collection of case studies based on Dr. Perry’s work with children and childhood trauma
  • Each case highlighted different interventions used; also discussed past research and past interventions that had varying degrees of success
  • A good read for social workers, anyone in the mental health profession, or people who work closely with children
  • Moral of the story: early childhood is a very critical time in one’s development and there are multiple ways that things can go very wrong. It is also a time where rehabilitation is the most possible.  The authors manage both the depressing and uplifting aspects very well
