#30 — Vinegar Girl

Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler
Rating: 2/5
  • A modern interpretation of Taming of the Shrew
  • While technically modern, the story still felt antiquated– I found the characters very annoying and unlikable. I hated them all and didn’t care about what happened to them. It was a relief when the book ended
  • One can’t help but compare Tyler to Jane Smiley– Smiley did a modern interpretation of King Lear (A Thousand Acres), and it was far superior. This paled in comparison
