Bar Virage

Where: 118 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003
  • In their own words (via their website), the place is an Israeli Gastrobar
  • It had a mixture of tapas and mains. We had a sampler of the appetizers– falafel, babaganoush, and labane (similar to cream cheese or a very thick greek yogurt)– while presented better than street cart fare or a hole in the wall place, the taste of the food was remarkably similar. It was served with grilled pita (which was the best part) and they offered us seconds when we devoured them within five minutes
  • Our main dishes didn’t seem very Israeli (whatever that means) yet were also good. We tried the short-rib risotto and the freekeh bowl– while on the opposing ends of the healthiness spectrum, both were hearty, filling and flavorful
