#78 — Here I Am

Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer
Rating: 3/5
  • This is a bear of a book to carry around in hard cover format on the subway (571 pages)
  • The book is about the crumbling of two institutions: the state of Israel in a massive earthquake and the marriage of Jacob and Julia Bloch
  • The long and meandering conversations show the family dynamics and the distinct personalities of each character well
  • It is both a very funny and very serious novel. It is also very long, but I hesitate to state that it is too long
