#74 — Heat and Light

Heat and Light by Jennifer Haigh
Rating: 4/5
  • To say this is a book about fracking is to oversimplify it, but it really is a book about fracking– it did a very good job of shedding light on the issue from multiple sides, although it does lean very much toward the anti-fracking end of the spectrum
  • Like most modern novels, there are interweaving narratives and there’s no real “main” character
  • It reminds me a bit of Richard Russo’s Everybody’s Fool, but it could just be that the characters are from a poor rural area. After all, there’s no satire involved at all– it’s a very loving and sympathetic view of people, even when they do awful things
