#73 — Bodega Dreams

Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez
Rating: 4/5
  • A rags to riches story about a man who has nothing and transforms himself to become the king of East Harlem; he enlists the help of the main character (Julio) to reunite him with his first love, the one that got away. Of course, everything ends tragically
  • I have a soft spot for this book because The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books, and this was definitely a tribute to Fitzgerald. Because the themes that show up in both books are timeless, Bodega Dreams was able to maintain its originality and modernity so that even if you hadn’t read Fitzgerald, you could still enjoy it
