#53 — South of the Border, West of the Sun

South of the Border, West of the Sun by Murakami Haruki
Rating: 4/5
  • Similar to Norwegian Wood in that it does not dabble in the surreal
  • All I can say is that Murakami is obsessed with frail, emotionally disturbed women and the clueless, selfish men that can’t get enough of them
  • If it were any other author, the persistence of this theme with its slight variations in other works would annoy me to an extent, but for whatever reason, it doesn’t bother me… If I were Murakami’s wife though, I would start to take things personally after a while
