#52 — Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation

Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation by Steven Johnson
Rating: 3/5
  • This book gives examples of how ideas/inventions develop. Johnson makes the claim that flashes of insight are rare; rather, they are built on layers of other ideas over time. Particular environments act as catalysts; what each setting has in common is that they have vast networks of people with differing points of view, with built-in platforms from which they can exchange ideas (e.g. big cities, the internet)
  • The concept makes logical sense if you think about it, but it’s written in a very enthusiastic and accessible way
