#42 — The Heart Goes Last: A Novel

The Heart Goes Last: A Novel by Margaret Atwood
Rating: 3/5
  • It’s a mix between The Giver, McCarthy’s The RoadStation Eleven, Gold Fame Citrus, pretty much every post-apocalyptic book that was written somewhat recently with some Brave New World and 1984 thrown in for good measure
  • This alternate world and the various characters who inhabit it were more interesting than the plot itself, which was predictable and boring — the perfect world has to have its flaws, there has to be people fighting it, and the battle between good and evil must end favorably on the side that deserves it
  • While it started off at a leisurely pace, it seemed rushed at the end. There was a seeming lack of interest for what happens to the characters “after” — there was a feeling that a lot information was crammed in to bring everything to a neat conclusion
