#24 — Lovely, Dark, Deep

Lovely, Dark, Deep by Joyce Carol Oates
Rating: 4/5
  • The sheer amount of writing this woman produces is hard to comprehend
  • The book is a collection of short stories (which I didn’t really realize until halfway through the third story) and the quality varies. The ones in the beginning were a lot stronger
  • She decides to take the surrealist route in some of them — I haven’t read all of her books but I don’t remember her using that in other works — was she experimenting? I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, especially the one about a couple who believed their son turned into a bonobo
