#21 — A Little Life

A Little Life by Hanyu Yanagihara

Rating: 5/5

  • The book of evers: most depressing book ever, most emotionally exhausting book ever, the best book ever. I didn’t want to continue reading it but I couldn’t put it down… Pure torture
  • The jacket summary (4 college friends and their lives chronicled over 30 years) doesn’t do it justice
  • Do not read this on the subway because it’s: a) unwieldy (700+ pages), and b) the type of book that is so unpredictable that one is in constant danger of becoming a blubbering mess in a very public place
  • Other than Yanagihara’s obsession with pedophiles, it is nothing like People in the Trees
