#12 — The Art of Hearing Heartbeats

The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker

  • Rating: 2/5
  • A love story set in Burma which spans New York and 50 years. It could have been set anywhere, given that the setting/historical context was not expounded upon at all in the book
  • Dying together with your true love sounds nice, but if this was real life everyone would think this guy is a jerk — he abandoned a pregnant, handicapped woman, his “true love,” to become a successful lawyer in New York with a wife and family who he is detached from, then proceeds to ditch his entire family without explanation to die with his soul mate
