#67 — The Invention of Wings

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

  • Rating: 2/5
  • Reading the author’s comments at the end of book, learned that Hettie/Handful was largely fictional (she died in childhood) while Sarah’s character was shaped by available historical documents. Perhaps out of respect for the “real” Sarah, the author held back on exploring any dark aspects of Sarah’s character. She seemed to good to be true and therefore her narratives didn’t seem to ring true. Hettie seemed more real and complex and thus more interesting.
